Ford F-150 parts for a truck that changed frame four times

The F-150 has been rebuilt four times in the modern era: the tenth generation from 1997, the eleventh from 2004, the twelfth from 2009, the aluminum thirteenth from 2015 and the current fourteenth from 2021. Each one moved the exhaust hangers, the air box and the suspension mounts. Within the aluminum trucks the engine spread runs from a 2.7 EcoBoost to a 5.0 V8 and a 3.5 PowerBoost hybrid, and the Raptor R adds a supercharged V8. That is why we order F-150 parts by generation and engine first: a 5.0 and a 3.5 take different y-pipes and different intakes, and the hybrid adds an electric path to work around.

  • Five modern generations with different frames and mounts
  • EcoBoost V6, V8 and hybrid engines within one body
  • Aluminum body panels from 2015 that change bracket hardware
  • Regular, extended and crew cab with short and long boxes

What fits a Ford F-150

F-150 owners buy flow, sound and towing first, because the truck is equal parts daily driver and workhorse. These are the categories we fit most on the half-ton, each chosen against the engine and the cab, since a Raptor and a base XL share almost nothing under the skin.

  • Cat-back, axle-back and y-pipe exhaust for the V6 and V8 engines
  • Cold-air intakes for the 2.7, 3.5, 5.0 and 5.2 engines
  • Headers and mid-pipes for the 5.0 and the Raptor V8
  • Tuners and throttle controllers, hybrid-aware where needed
  • Level and lift kits with shocks sized to the cab and box
  • Tonneau covers, bed rails, tow hitches and brake controllers

Ford F-150 fitment by generation, engine and cab

F-150 fitment turns on the generation first, because the 2009 to 2014 truck and the 2015-and-newer aluminum truck do not share mounts. Within a generation the engine decides the rest: a 3.5 EcoBoost, a 5.0 V8 and a 3.5 PowerBoost hybrid each have their own exhaust and intake, and a short-box crew cab has different suspension loads from a long-box regular cab.

  • Tenth 1997–2003, eleventh 2004–2008 and twelfth 2009–2014 trucks
  • Thirteenth 2015–2020 aluminum F-150, which had its own 2021 refresh
  • Fourteenth 2021 and newer, including the PowerBoost hybrid
  • 2.7 and 3.5 EcoBoost, 3.3 V6, 5.0 V8 and 3.5 PowerBoost
  • 5.2 supercharged V8 in the Raptor R
  • Regular, extended and crew cab with short and long box

Materials and spec options for an F-150

An F-150 is a daily for many owners, so drone matters as much as flow. We fit stainless where the truck is kept and aluminized steel where the budget leads, and we size the tubing and muffler to the engine rather than to how loud the owner wants it. Because the body is aluminum on the 2015-and-newer trucks, we use isolating hardware so steel brackets never sit against bare aluminum and start a corrosion cell.

  • Aluminized steel versus 304 stainless systems
  • Chambered, turbo-style and straight-through muffler cores
  • Single and dual rear-exit exhaust for the V6 and V8 trucks
  • Oiled versus dry cold-air intakes with sealed airboxes
  • Isolating hardware for the aluminum-body trucks

How an F-150 order and install works

Every F-150 job follows the same sequence so the truck leaves quieter, cooler and free of the vibration a rushed exhaust job can introduce.

  1. Confirm the generation, engine, cab, box and trim.

  2. Measure the factory exhaust diameter and check the hangers.

  3. Confirm whether the truck is a hybrid or a Raptor variant.

  4. Quote parts and labour as separate ranges before ordering.

  5. Order against the VIN once the application is locked.

  6. Install with new gaskets and clamps and the correct torque.

  7. Road-test for drone and re-torque after the first miles.

What Ford F-150 parts cost

F-150 pricing spreads wide because the truck spans a base XL and a Raptor R. A 5.0 dual cat-back costs more than a 2.7 single system, headers add install time a cat-back does not, and a leveling kit on a truck with adaptive shocks costs more than one without. Every number here varies with the engine, cab and finish, so treat it as a range until we see the truck.

What we see most on F-150 builds

The F-150 that comes through most is either a 3.5 EcoBoost crew cab that tows and wants a better note and cooler running, or a 5.0 truck that wants headers and a tune for real power. On the EcoBoost tow truck the exhaust, a tuner and a brake controller go on first, because that is what makes loaded driving easier. On the 5.0 the plan is usually intake, headers, exhaust and a tune in that order, and a leveling kit with tires when the owner wants the stance to match the sound.

  • 3.5 EcoBoost crew cabs that tow and want a cooler exhaust
  • 5.0 V8 trucks chasing real power with headers and a tune
  • Raptor owners adding intake, lighting and armor
  • Work XL and XLT trucks needing parts for the long box

Ford F-150 performance goals and where they pay off

The F-150 has the widest range of sensible build paths of anything we sell, so it pays to set the goal first. If the truck tows, the money goes to a cooler exhaust, a tuner that firms the shifts and a brake controller, and the seat-of-the-pants gain is real on a grade. If the truck is a 5.0 kept for fun, intake, headers, exhaust and a tune stack into a genuine gain because the V8 responds to all four. On a 3.5 EcoBoost a tune is the single biggest step, because it lifts boost and sharpens the transmission, and the intake and exhaust mostly help it breathe and sound better. On a PowerBoost hybrid the engine parts are still available but the electric side changes the tuning, so we are careful and honest about what a tune will and will not do there.

  • Towing build: cooler exhaust, tuner and brake controller
  • 5.0 build: intake, headers, exhaust and tune stack together
  • 3.5 EcoBoost: the tune is the single biggest gain
  • PowerBoost: engine parts yes, but tuning is limited by the hybrid

Ordering F-150 parts by application

The F-150 is the truck most likely to be quoted wrong, because the badge has covered five frames and a hybrid. Before pricing an exhaust we confirm the generation, the engine, whether the truck is single or dual exit and whether it is a short or long box. For suspension we check for the max-tow package and adaptive shocks, because those change the spring and shock spec. And we ask about the PowerBoost and the Raptor up front, because those two are not the truck the general catalog assumes.

  • Generation and engine confirmed before any exhaust quote
  • Exit count, bed length and tow package checked for suspension
  • Hybrid and Raptor variants flagged before parts are ordered

From the bay

Questions from the counter

Do you cover the older steel-body F-150s?

Yes. The 1997–2003, 2004–2008 and 2009–2014 trucks keep their own fitments. Their exhaust and intake routing does not match the aluminum trucks, so we never cross the listings.

What does a cat-back do on a 2.7 EcoBoost?

It changes the note and frees the flow a little, but the genuine gain on that engine comes from a tune, because its boost has headroom the factory calibration leaves alone.

Can you tune a PowerBoost hybrid F-150?

Tuning on a hybrid is more limited because the electric side manages the system, so we are careful and honest about what is available rather than promise a big gain.

Will headers fit the aluminum-body truck?

Yes, but we use isolating hardware on the brackets, because steel against bare aluminum starts to corrode over time. That is standard on every 2015-and-newer job.

Should I lift or level a towing F-150?

Leveling looks good but affects the loaded stance, so a tow truck often needs a helper spring or air bags as well. We plan the towing use before we change the height.

Do you fit exhaust for the Raptor and Raptor R?

Yes. Those are their own fitments, and the Raptor R adds a supercharged V8 that takes a different system again, so we quote them separately.

How much labour is a cat-back install?

Most F-150 cat-backs are a half-day. Rusted factory systems and dual setups take longer, so we quote labour as a range not a flat fee.

Can an intake void my warranty?

An intake only touches the intake side and only matters if it is the cause of a failure. We explain that before you buy so you can weigh it for your truck.
